OUR CHARITY 2018

GUCFS is delighted to announce this year's charity, nominated by our social media followers, is Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity. This charity works tirelessly to improve the lives of those children treated at The Royal Hospital, Glasgow. It is also Scotland's largest children's hospital and treats over 168,000 kids a year. The money raised by GUCFS will go to Enhanced medical equipment, Family support services, Groundbreaking paediatric research and innovative play programmes, ensuring patients have the best possible time at The Royal Hospital. GUCFS is honoured to be partnered with such an incredible charity and looks forward to updating you on all the support we are providing for Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity.

2017 success

his year has been quite different to other years in that we’re more directly involved with our charity than we have been in the past. We’ve been fortunate enough to be taken on tours by the charity around the hospital and be given the opportunities to help raise money through bucket collection and bag packing! These opportunities mean that we have a better understanding of where the money we raise goes and the important ways in which its helping.

GUCFS’ fundraising doesn’t just start when the academic year starts, lots of our society members fundraised over summer. Some of these fundraisers were done individually, Creative Director Anne did a paraglide in France, Videographer Hannah climbed Ben Lomond and Graphic’s Iona walked the West Highland Way, to name a few!

During the year we try to do as many fundraisers as we can. One of our better known fundraisers this year was GUCFS’ and Glasgow Uni’s first ever Jailbreak, which raised over £3,000!

The charity also has their own fundraising events that anyone can sign up to take part in. Chloe, Iona, Anne and Beth did a 10k walk around Glasgow. Another event is the charity’s annual Santa Bungee which is taking place on 2nd December, with models, BA’s, committee members took part and raised an amazing £3,571.15!

We look forward to bringing our success into 2018 and are excited for more fundraising to come.
